The Union Minister for Fisheries Animal Husbandry and Dairying will chair a review meeting of different flagship schemes by the Government of India in Ampati, South West Garo Hills alongside with government officials and stakeholders on Monday.
Around 50 participants including 40 fish farmers from five valley districts of Imphal West, Imphal East, Bishnupur, Thoubal and Kakching took part in the workshop.
Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh said 18 Cage Culture units and 11 Pen culture units were being installed on Friday at various places of Loktak Lake, Takmu Lake and Thanga for ensuring sustainable economy of the people and increasing fish production in the state.
Manipur Education Minister S Rajen said various proposals on development of the fisheries sector were made to Union Minister of Fisheries, Giriraj Singh, as fish is one of the staple foods of the state.
In June 2020, the Central government had sanctioned a total amount of Rs 129 crore under ICDP’s Manipur Fishery Project to bring development in the fisheries cooperative sectors of four districts of Manipur.
Fisheries minister said he will soon carry out inspections under the state government in different districts.
