LETTER to the EDITOR: Prevent or Contain the disease
Manipur: A mass awareness programme on COVID-19 was held on Tuesday at various parts of the valley districts.
The ways of definition tell how our leaders are positioning questions of life and death of Manipuri people vis-a-vis the powers that be in New Delhi. Now is not a time for a politics of definition. Now is a time for national consensus. Call it by any name, we are now confronted with rising COVID-19 cases of which the origins we cannot trace.
Nemcha Kipgen exhorted the people to be responsible individually by following the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
There is a strong suspicion that in pockets of Manipur, community transmission of COVID-19 had occurred.
The COVID-19 positive tally in the state has surged to 2,458 including 1,653 recovered cases and 805 active cases.
Since community transmission is suspected in Thoubal, alcohol vendors are suspected to be a source of local transmission in the district.
The only way to combat the disease is by to repeat again, improve personal hygiene, change in the social norm, avoiding crowd, leave home only when necessary.
“We don’t want to reach a stage where community transmission will happen. We are lucky to be in this period but we cannot take things for granted.”
Minister in-charge of Kangpokpi and Senapati for COVID-19 Nemcha Kipgen urged the district machineries to take appropriate measures for timely prevention of community transmission in the district.
