IFP Editorial: Assembly elections are only a few months away and political parties are warming up for it. But right now, the people are in mourning of the daily COVID deaths and fear of fresh infections. We are not talking only of the government’s indifferent attitude to people’s suffering and torment but the sheer audacity of the effort to score brownie points now.
As the Manipur government takes the huge risk of procuring oxygen supply from other states in the fight against the pandemic, one big question that arises is - Did the N Biren Singh-led government miss the opportunity of getting oxygen plants and a dedicated COVID-19 hospital from the Japanese government?
Chief Minister N Biren Singh said whatever the present state government had achieved till date was due to the unflinching support of the Central government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and co-operation from the people of Manipur.
The move comes five days after the state halted all ongoing recruitment process citing the poor economy.
