SSA, RMSA teachers on indefinite strike
IFP Bureau | Updated: January 13, 2020 22:09:58 pm

In protest against their unfulfilled demands, Joint Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) and Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA) teachers began an indefinite strike on Monday and staged a sit-protest in front of their respective Zonal Education Office.

The teachers protested in front of ZEO Khuyathong, Porompat, Thoubal, Bishnupur and Kakching.

According to a release sent by general secretary joint RMSA and SSA Teachers Association, Khuraijam Hemat, the teachers were compelled to make the move after they were denied receiving the facilities of a regular teacher such as regular salary and promotion avenues which they are entitled to receive.

The teachers had served an ultimatum to the state government last year. It also mentioned that they will also submit intimation to their respective ZEOs on Tuesday stating that they have never enjoyed regular salary like their fellow government teachers.

No responsible officers of education department considered them as employees until the teachers resorted to protest and agitations, it stated.

Other government teachers enjoyed advance payment for major festivals of the state but even in 2019, SSA and RMSA teachers were denied advance payment for Christmas.

It further mentioned that the teachers are appointed as regular teachers like other employees of the state but their service progression is not fixed or considered to be established in the education (S) official notifications.

Further mentioning that they have been working without monthly salary for six months, the intimation also stated that the teachers will support the indefinite strike and will not perform duties with effect from January 12 until their demands are fulfilled.
