‘Specifying NSU site as Kangpokpi district unilateral decision’

Considering the future of the indigenous people of the state, the FOH urged the government to take necessary action against those carrying out illegal practices.

The Federation of Haomee (FOH) has said that the Manipur government cannot settle the district boundary issue of the National Sports University (NSU) site by listening to the voice of only one community.

FOH vice-president K Heera Kabui said in a release that the state government’s act of specifying the area of NSU which falls under Senjam Chirang as Kangpokpi district is a ‘unilateral decision’ taken only in the interest of a single community.

Questioning the state government in taking a lobsided decision, the FOH said the ongoing people’s movement is the outcome of the one-sided act. “It will be wrong to think that the government can suppress the people’s movement by using forces,” it added.

The FO alleged that some armed miscreants who came down from the hills at Leimakhong by firing some rounds has created fear psychosis to many Meitei people, including women and children on Thursday night. The government not taking up any action against the armed people is very unfortunate, it said.

“Certain community residing in the hills district have been destroying many temples of the Meitei community and renaming many sacred places of Meitei into their names. However, the state government always turns a blind eye in such matters,” it said.

Considering the future of the indigenous people of the state, the federation urged the government to take necessary action against those carrying out illegal practices.

It maintained that the claim over the land of NSU as donated by the Haraothel Kuki chief is an act of fooling the state government.

While asserting that FOH will always fight against any impact given by outsiders to the indigenous people of the state, it added that FOH will extend full support to the people’s movement in the NSU issue.
