L Sotinkumar, secretary, Manipur unit CPI, has been granted bail on health ground on Monday.
He was produced before the court of Judicial Magistrate First Class, Bishnupur, Margaret Ningsiamkim.
However, it is said that the CPI leader will be released from the judicial custody on Tuesday only as it was not possible for the Jail SP to sign the release order on Monday.
A team of City police arrested L Sotinkumar on December 20, 2019, in the wake of the nationwide general strike called by the Left parties against the controversial amended Citizenship Act on December 19.
He was released on bail on December 21 by chief judicial magistrate, Imphal West. However, he was re-arrested by Nambol police and was remanded to judicial custody.
Rights groups have termed the arrest and detention as ‘arbitrary’ and even the intervention of United Nations Human Rights Council was sought for his immediate and unconditional release.
Two more FIRs are filed by Porompat police and Lilong police respectively against Sotinkumar.
