Manipur Police on Thursday foiled a bid to storm tourism department by women activists who were demanding suspension of preparations for Sangai Festival, 2019.
The women groups had been demanding suspension of preparations for holding the annual Sangai festival this November, keeping in mind the prevailing situation of the state.
Police intervened and stop the groups in front of 2nd MR Gate, Imphal but later took the women’s representatives to meet the Director of Tourism Department.
One of the representatives of the women group Sakhi informed that the director told them that all arrangement for Sangai Festival 2019 is completed. However, he assured to meet Chief Minister N Biren Singh, who is also the chairman of the Sangai festival committee to raise the demands of the women group.
