‘Rights of juvenile: A handbook for professionals and lawyers’ written by Athokpam Chinglemba Luwang was released on Tuesday by acting chairperson Manipur Human Rights Commission (MHRC), Khaidem Mani in a function held at the premise of MHRC.
The book was released in the presence of advocate, M Ibohal, associate professor, LMS law college, N Pramod, former member, Manipur Commission for Protection of Child Rights (MCPCR), Keisham Pradipkumar, associate general manager of CRY, Ashim Kumar Gosh.
Mani said the author has contributed a good book for the society. Lawyers and advocates are playing a large role for protecting child rights and the book will help them in their work, he said.
He further mentioned that the Commission has the power of directing every section of departments. The Commission can even question the High Court if it is involved in delaying tactics, he said. Every citizen can approach the Commission if their rights or violated, he added.
Associate manager of Child Rights and You Kolkatta, Ashim Kumar Gosh said any issue in the State can give adverse effects to a child. He also stated that education is the best means of building a good nation. “The people of Manipur have potentials that are different from remaining states in the country. Nurture that talent,” he added.
He further said child policy has been drafted and the state government needs to strengthen institutions working for the upliftment of children.
