JNU students on Monday held a protest in front of the administration block as a part of the ongoing strike against the ‘regressive’ draft hostel manual that was released by the administration.

The students have been on strike for a week against the new hostel manual which proposes an increase in hostel fees, electricity charges etc.  The students alleged that the manual approved by the Inter Hostel Management (IHA) committee has provisions for curfew timings and a dress code besides the hike on hostel fees.

However, the university administration stated that the hostel fee has been increased in order to create better amenities for the students, as per sources. Accusing the students for spreading rumours about curfew timings in the hostel and the dress code, the university registrar clarified that the allegations are false.

As per sources, the student protesters today demanded the VC to come out from his office and sort out the matter in their presence. Alleging the VC, Mamidala Jagdesh Kumar for being an absentee and ignoring the issues, the students today resolved to file a missing persons report at Vasant Kunj North Police Station in a satirical move.

Following the protest , registrar Pramod Kumar issued a statement today informing that the provosts of the varsity will be meeting the hostel presidents on November 6 to have a detailed discussion on the student’s concern.

“The outcome of the meeting will subsequently be submitted to the appropriate authorities for further consideration. The administration appeals to all students to resume their academic activities,” he stated.
