Sonam Sherpa, founding band member and lead guitarist of top Indian rock and roll band Parikrama, passed away in Kurseong on Friday. 48 year-old Sherpa suffered a cardiac arrest while he was in Kurseong for a music related visit, according to reports.
Sonam Sherpa had been playing guitar since the an early age and he was part of Parikrama when it was formed in 1991. Parikrama’s popular hits include But It Rained, Tears of the Wizard and Am I Dreaming.
Sherpa was featured on CNBC‘s Young Turks, a show based on young entrepreneurs. The BBC also featured him and his band in a rockumentary during their Download Festival tour. He collaborated with his fellow band members Nitin Malik and Subir Malik to compose music for the Bollywood film, Manjunath. Sherpa also owned and ran Parikrama School of Music based in Hauz Khas Village, New Delhi.
“With a very heavy heart, we regret to inform the sudden demise of our backbone, Mr. SONAM Sherpa .
