IMPHAL | Nov 4
Volunteers of Manipur Students Federation (MSF) along with some students of LMS Law college locked the gate of the administrative block and principal room of the college today in connection with issues arising out of college students union election.
Speaking to the media at the college, vice president of Manipur Students Federation, Sajad Puyadmayum said that a notification from education (U) on October notified the colleges to declare the specific dates for different process of election but the college failed to put up any notice on the said date as instructed by Education(U).
Later on November 2, the principal of the college, Md. Salatur Rahman under the influence of some persons put up a notice around 2 pm and fixed 4 pm as last hour for filling the nomination form, he alleged.
Condemning such action of the school authority, the scrutiny of the election which is scheduled for November 4 has been cancelled and any process of the election will be prohibited until an understanding is reached with MSF, said Salatur.
He also warned that any individual who opens the locked door will be held responsible for any untoward outcome.
Later in the evening, volunteers of LMS Law college students union broke the lock and reopened the administrative block and the principal office.
Briefing the media at the college, president of the union, Soyam Thomas appealed to the college authority to fix a proper date for the scrutiny at the earliest.
Condemning the action of MSF, Thomas continued that any outsiders and organisations should not interfere in the college matters without consulting the college students union. He also informed that nomination procedures were conducted as per guidelines on November 2 and the date of scrutiny was fixed for November 4.
