Meghalaya: COVID-19 patient’s contacts test negative for virus
There were 43 such contacts including high risk and low risk contacts.
All the persons who came into contact with the 70-year old man who tested positive on Tuesday yielded negative results for COVID-19, authorities informed.
“There were 43 such contacts including high risk and low risk contacts and their samples turned out negative,” Health and Family Welfare Minister, Alexander Laloo Hek informed on Wednesday.
He also said that contact tracing will go on every day and that authorities will make sure that all those who came in contact with the elderly person are quarantined for 14 days in case they show Covid-19 symptoms.
When asked if there is community transmission since the man did not have a travel history, Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong said that there is no such transmission since all those who came in contact with him tested negative.
Director of Health Services (MI), Dr Aman Warr said that if a person tests positive from a certain area, that place is turned into a containment zone till all formalities are complete.
It may be mentioned that the person is a resident of Umsamlem village in Ri-Bhoi district and is currently being treated at Dr. H Gordon Robert's Hospital, Shillong.
