Manipur's COVID-19 active cases surge to 4,166; death toll 139

A total of 140 more people tested positive for COVID-19. Confirmed tally rose to 17,162 in Manipur on Sunday.

In a span of 24 hours, as per the latest updates by the state COVID-19 Common Control Room, one female aged 72 years from Imphal East died at RIMS. And, in all, the release stated that 138 persons (70M, 68F) from the general population and two personnel from Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) were confirmed as new COVID-19 positive cases.

The positive cases from the general population are 44 from Imphal West, 33 from Imphal East, 24 from Thoubal, four each from Jiribam and Kangpokpi, nine from Churachandpur, one each from Tengnoupal and Noney, six each from Bishnupur and Tamenglong, and two each from Chandel, Kakching and Senapati. All are locals without any significant travel history. They are being shifted to the Covid Care facilities. All necessary medical precautionary measures like containment and contact tracing are in place, the release added.

Meanwhile, the total number of discharged persons is 138, the release stated, adding that the cumulative number of recovered cases is 12,857 (General Population 10,442 and Central Security Personnel -2,415). With it, the recovery rate is 74.91 per cent.

While the number of active cases is 4,166 (General Population - 3,877 and Central Security Personnel -289), the cumulative number of positive cases is 17,162 (General Population - 14, 454 and Central Security Personnel - 2.708).

To break the chain, if one is in contact with a positive person, one should self-isolate immediately, contact Covid-19 control room or CMO for testing. Wear mask, wash hands and maintain social distancing, the release added.
