Former president of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC), Nameirakpam Loken Singh, said the people of Manipur want to hear PM Modi speak on solving the Manipur crisis and not the number of FIRs or the opening of schools and functioning of government offices.

Loken told the media at his Sangaiprou residence in Imphal West on Friday that PM Modi’s speech did not mention any constructive statements to bring a solution to the Manipur crisis other than past activities including the lodging of FIRs and the arrest of some people.

He added that Congress MP Angomcha Bimol Akoijam highlighted the exclusion of the Manipur issue in the Presidential Speech, which was not the discussion or debate. The state BJP’s allegation towards Bimol is immature as the core issues of NRC and SoO have already been discussed on the Manipur Assembly floor. For the NRC, Union Home Minister Amit Shah himself expressed that the biometrics process has already started, he stated.

“It is not the time for playing political blame games but to cooperate with each other to bring a solution and restore peace in Manipur,” he added.

“It is unfortunate that an MLA who is also a relative of CM Biren Singh made allegations about the speech of Congress MP Angomcha Bimol, saying that he had skipped the core issue of Manipur,” he added.

The BJP workers should stop playing cheap political games to please their leaders by sidelining the welfare of the public, said Loken.

He said the All India Congress Committee and Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee are confident that the two Congress MPs of Manipur will highlight the Manipur issue more on the parliamentary floor.

Meanwhile, opposition leader Rahul Gandhi has scheduled his visit to Manipur on July 8. During his visit, he will meet CSO leaders of Manipur and will meet internally displaced people (IDPs) at Churachandpur, Moirang, and other places.

Rahul Gandhi’s scheduled visit to Manipur will be his first visit across the country after he was appointed as leader of the opposition.
