Family and relatives of the six abducted individuals along with representatives of Jiribam Students’ Forum (JSF) met with Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Thursday night to convey their grievances and demands regarding the entire case.
They also submitted a memorandum to the chief minister demanding the authorities to quickly figure out the whereabouts of the hostages.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, Ningthoujam Ibenoubi, daughter of Yurembam Rani, who is among the abducted, stated that the chief minister had assured them that the government was working round the clock to rescue the hostages.
“I have not taken any food since they went missing and will continue my fast till the case is brought to justice,” she said.
She stated that the entire ordeal had put the entire family through intense mental turmoil.
“I cannot stop thinking about what they must be going through. How are they being treated? Whether they are having food or not? I feel helpless at the moment, as such I urge the authorities to initiate all possible measures to rescue all the hostages,” she said.
In the memorandum submitted, the family and JSF had demanded the state government to deploy requisite state forces in Jiribam primarily in areas of Mongbung, Morbung, Leingangpokpi and Barak Circle; to properly strengthen the police and VDF outpost in Jirimuk, Leishabithol, Lamtai Khunou, Borobekra and Chhotobekra.
The memorandum also alleged that the abduction took place due to negligence of the state and central forces deployed in the area.
