The Villages Council Longmai Area, (VCLA), consisting of 30 villages of Longmai (Noney) area on Monday served an ultimatum of a week i.e. by August 18 for the authorities to address the power outage, failing which the public shall resort to mass agitation.
The VCLA on its general meeting on Friday deliberated on the issue of constant interruption of power supply for days and weeks due to the unstable power line stretching from Yurembam Power Station to the Noney Sub-station despite the repeated appeal/memorandum duly submitted to the concerned authorities earlier.
Noney, being a newly bifurcated district still remain neglected with zero maintenance of the age-old electric pole, insulator and HT/LT wire installed along which, fault occurred every now and then, causing extreme inconveniences to the prepaid consumers, which was made officially mandatory for all the beneficiaries since a few years ago.
This constant power cuts have severely affected the economy and online based administrative activities in the District Headquarter.
The meeting observed that both the 11 MSPDCL and 33 MSPCL are 0nderstaffed coupled with the non-tribal employees posted at 33 has made the line clearance impossible, with excuses made on the current situation of communal conflict in Manipur.
The 3.4 MBA currently in service has become overloaded with the rapid growth of consumers leading to short circuit and line explosion.
The meeting unanimously adopted a resolution to make a final appeal to the authorities and department concerned with the following points of demands, in the best interest of the public.
It also demanded an officially documented agreement with the competent authority within a week from this date of issuing the statement i.e by August 18 failing which the public shall resort to mass agitation.
The meeting resolved to demand for Installation of Mini-Towers from Yurembam to Noney Sub-Station, replacing the age-old sub standards installation.
It also demanded an immediate posting of not less than five employees from risk free communities for effective line maintenance at 33 line MSPCL and upgradation of present 3.4 MBA to 5. MBA at Noney Sub-Station.
The Longmai area meeting also decided to push for early Inauguration of the Jiri-Thangal (Lamdangmei) via Khoupum power line extending to Noney Substation and make it operational at the earliest.
