The first ever Northeast Nupi (Woman) Drama Festival cum national seminar on theatre will be held in Imphal East district from December 2-11, programme organisers announced on Wednesday.
The 10-day festival, a first of its kind, aims to explore the hidden talents of women in Northeast India and promote them for the world to see. The programme is being organised by Khengjonglang, Imphal in collaboration with Sangeet Natak Academy at Khengjonglang Theatre Complex, near Irilbung in Imphal East district.
The Northeast Nupi (Woman) Drama Festival will give immense opportunity to people working in the field of theatre to excel their knowledge, organizing committee chairman K Radhakumar said at a press conference held today at the Manipur Press Club.
He said that the festival will feature performances by 10 women theatre groups of the Northeast. As a part of the programme, paper will be presented by prominent writers from December 3-6.
Also, four theatre personalities will be honoured on December 2. They are Ima Sabitri of Manipur, Anuradha Kapoor from Delhi, Kirti Jain from Delhi and Nillam Mansingh from Punjab.
Name of the plays to be performed are Eigi Khongthang Lepkhiroi by Khenjonglang Manipur, Antigone Mania by Jirsong Theatre, Assam; Kao-Phaba by Kangjabi Meitei Chanu Artists cum Drama, Manipur; Jatra Pala by Jagitri Culture Society, Tripura; Jallianwala Bagh by Banian Repertory Theatre, Manipur; Ingagi Nongma by Prospective Repertory Theatre, Manipur; Helen by Wings Theatre, Assam; Khamba Thoibi Punsi Leipul by Panthoibi Nishabandh Leela Lup, Maniput; Leimakon by PADA, Manipur, Pebet by Kalakshetra, Manipur.
Radhakumar appealed to the people of the state to extend support and cooperation to make the programme a grand success.
