A new Tangkhul Naga feature film ‘Atheira’ (Bullet) directed by Prithibiraj Oinam with Raingam Keishing and Ningchangwon in lead roles has been released.
The film from the stable of TNT Production was released by Ukhrul Deputy Commissioner Joseph Pauline Kamson at the Town Hall here on Thursday evening.
Speaking as chief guest, Joseph Pauline said that films and movies can play a big role in shaping the society and appealed the Tangkhul film fraternity to educate the public through production of films with high moral values.
Calling the district as a ‘progressing society’, the deputy commissioner noted that along with the growth of Tangkhul film industry, the district is witnessing an emergence of many young talented artistes.
Chief Convenor, Department of Forest, Environment & Climate Change (DFE&CC) Ukhrul & Kamjong, Michael Shaiza also attended the release function as guest of honour. In his speech, Shaiza said that films and music are the best medium of entertainment, through which the society is represented in the way it desires.
“In fact, the status of our society is represented by the films/movies we make and so it takes real efforts to make good movies that portray our society in a good light,” he asserted, adding that such films could even inspire the viewers to dream or aspire for good things in their lives.
At the same time, he lamented that Tangkhul film industry has lagged behind vis-a-vis its counterparts elsewhere on account of financial instability and called for a major overhaul to re-consolidate it.
“Tangkhul filmdom has a vast resource of local talents and it’s a collective responsibility of the society to encourage and promote the industry,” Shaiza exhorted the crowd.
While congratulating TNT team on their successful completion of the new movie, he also said that advertisement and publicity are an essential part of films promotion to ensure their success.
Films Censor Board Convenor Thotshang Shaiza highlighted that the censor board was instituted under the Tangkhul Naga Film Association (TNFA) with an aim to encourage an all-round development in film production. He further informed that the board has introduced certain criteria for film production in different aspects such as quality, social and religious norms and only those films certified by the board as such are allowed for public viewing.
Others present at the function were TNFA president Chingya Chawung and TNT Production officials.
