Manipur CAF and PD Minister Karam Shyam has encouraged youths to keep the habit of riding cycles to keep themselves healthy and to save the environment.
The minister was speaking as chief guest at the inaugural function of SAKSHAM 2020, a month-long fuel conservation campaign of Petroleum Conservation Research Association, which was launched at Tribal Research Institute, Imphal on Thursday.
Informing that he had been maintaining the habit of cycling for about two and half years, Karam Shyam said that petroleum will be depleted after 50 years if the present rate of consumption continues, while adding that the future lies in the hands of the coming generation.
He also said that humans have the ability to think for the future unlike other living beings, but many people live life without thinking for the future generations. The minister also appealed to the students present in the function to know the reason behind organising of the function and he also added that students should learn from such functions in order to preserve petroleum and to save the environment.
People engaged in organising such functions should also practice what they preach rather than verbally speaking about preserving the petroleum, said Shyam. He also stressed on the importance of teaching moral education to the students rather than just imparting bookish knowledge.
Participants in the program pledged to conserve petroleum and a drawing competition was also organised for students after the program.
Commissioner of CAF and PD, Manipur, Boby Waikhom also attended the function as guest of honour.
