Manipur Lokayukta ordered to conduct inquiry into TMC
The written complaint alleged the acting chairperson of Thoubal Municipal Council conspired with the 18 councilors and the then executive officer had misappropriated a huge sum amounting to Rs 1,0119,961 through the bank account of the Thoubal Municipal Council.
The Manipur Lokayukta chairperson has directed its inquiry wing, Manipur Lokayukta to conduct a preliminary inquiry on the allegations of funds being misappropriated by the Thoubal Municipal Council on Wednesday.
According to sources received by the Imphal Free Press, it is said that the order was issued following a complaint raised by one W Jotinkumar, who is the secretary general of ‘Thoubal Municipal Council Ward Members Welfare Association’ regarding the alleged misappropriation of public money in contravention of the law.
The source further added that the written complaint alleged the acting chairperson of Thoubal Municipal Council conspired with the 18 councilors and the then executive officer had misappropriated a huge sum amounting to Rs 1,0119,961 through the bank account of the Thoubal Municipal Council.
It is also alleged that the said amount was granted as a second installment of the General Basic Grant under 14th Finance Commission Award, 2017-18 under letter number 6/4/2015-DIR (MAHUD) dated October 21, 2019 of the MAHUD department, Government of Manipur.
He filed the complaint case ‘number 3 of 2020’ before the Manipur Lokayukta on June 11, the source added.
Following the complaint, the chairperson of Manipur Lokayukta directed that the inquiry Wing of Manipur Lokayukta should conduct a preliminary inquiry to find out as to whether a prima facie case for proceeding had been made out or not and further, it was also directed that the inquiry report might be submitted with the period prescribed under the Manipur Lokayukta Act, 2014.
