Manipur COVID-19 tally crosses 5000 mark; death toll rises to 20

The state also reported two COVID-19 deaths on Friday, taking the death toll to 20

Manipur's COVID-19 tally on Friday crossed the 5000 mark as 124 more people tested positive for the virus and the death toll in the state rose to 20 with the report of two more deaths from Imphal West, official sources said.

Of the 124 new cases, 98 are general cases and 26 are personnel of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF). With it, the cumulative number of COVID-19 confirmed cases now stands at 5049, a release from the COVID-19 Common Control Room stated. It stated that 3,737 are from the general population while 1,312 are Central security personnel.

Of the general cases, 50 new patients are from Imphal West, 26 from Imphal East, five from Bishnupur, eight from Chandel, five from Thoubal, two from Churachandpur, one from Kakching and one from Tamenglong. Only the one from Kakching is a returnee. The rest have no significant travel history, the release stated.

The two COVID-19 victims are both males, one 73 years old and another 67 years old from Imphal West. They succumbed to the disease at JNIMS Covid care facility.

As many as 259 more patients have been discharged after they were found negative for COVID-19 on RT-PCR test. With it, the cumulative number of recovered cases is 3261 and active cases is 1768. The recovery rate is now 64.58 per cent.

The new COVID-19 patients have been shifted to covid care facilities in the state and all medical precautionary measures and contact tracing of the patients are in place, additional director and spokesperson of the state Health Services Dr Khoirom Sasheekumar Mangang said in the release.
