Manipur: COVID-19 positive cases surge to 366

The number COVID-19 active cases in Manipur rose to 293 as 55 more were tested positive for Coronavirus on Thursday..

The total number of COVID-19 positive cases in Manipur rose to 366 as 24 more people, in addition to the 31 cases reported earlier in the day, tested positive for the virus, state health department said on Thursday.

State health department spokesperson Dr Khoirom Sasheekumar Mangang stated in a release that the 24 new cases, 13 males and 11 females, were confirmed at the Virus Research and Diagnostic Laboratories (VRDLs) of RIMS and JNIMS in Imphal. 

Of them, Senapati district reported 12 cases, Noney district six, Kakching and Ukhrul districts two cases each. Imphal East and Imphal West districts reported one case each, the state department said.

Earlier in the day, 31 cases were reported and they were confirmed at the Virus Research and Diagnostic Laboratories (VRDL) of RIMS in Imphal on late Wednesday.

Of them,Imphal West and Tamenglong districts reported 13 cases each, Kakching and Ukhrul districts two cases each. The other one case is from Bishnupur district, Dr Mangang stated.

“They are stable and are being shifted to Covid Care facilities in Imphal. All necessary precautionary measures have been taken up by the concerned district authorities,” the spokesperson added.

With the detection of new cases, the number of active cases in the state increased to 293.

Meanwhile, 10 more patients, nine males and one female, were discharged from RIMS and JNIMS on Thursday after they were found COVID-19 free on RT PCR tests, taking the total recovered cases in the state to 73.

The state health department further appealed to the people not to stigmatise the people who have been discharged from hospitals.

“The probability of a discharged person becoming positive again is very low and such virus are usually non-viable. They cannot infect other person. Hence people discharged from hospitals should not be stigmatised,” it stated.

On Wednesday, Manipur recorded seven new cases, taking the total number of COVID-19 cases in the state to 311.
