Manipur Bypolls 2020: Voters turn out in high spirit amid COVID-19 pandemic

Among the 31,213 voters at Wangjing Tentha AC in Thoubal district, an aged man was seen being carried forward by two young men to enable him to cast his vote for his favourite candidate.

Undeterred by the threat of COVID-19 pandemic or physical ailment, over 1.35 lakh voters in Manipur woke up early morning to cast their votes at the 203 polling stations spread across in four assembly constituencies Saturday.

As many as 1,35,212 electorates, including 66,807 males and 68,400 females, are expected to exercise their franchise to decide the fate of the 11 candidates in fray.

Among the 31,213 voters at Wangjing Tentha AC in Thoubal district, an aged man was seen being carried forward by two young men to enable him to cast his vote for his favourite candidate.

According to the official data, there are a total of 1,685 voters above the age of 80 years and 639 persons with disabilities, this time.

At 10 am the voters' turnout at Wangjing Tentha AC was 23.22 per cent while the poll percentage of Lilong was 27.28 per cent  and that of Wangoi at 9 am was 8.77 per cent, according to the CEO office Manipur.

Wanjing Tentha AC has 31,213 voters (15,053 males, 16,160 females) and 43 polling stations out of which two polling stations 34/4 and 34/5 are sensitive. 34/14 and 34/15 polling stations will be manned by woman polling personnel only. Three candidates including BJP, INC and Independent are in fray. In all 731 polling parties, including police personnel are stationed in Wangjing Tentha.

The polling which began at 7 am will continue till 5 pm and the counting of the votes will be conducted on November 10.

In Wangoi - Onaim Lukhoi Singh of the BJP, Khuraijam Loken Singh of the NPP and Salam Joy Singh of the INC

In Lilong - Md Abdul Nasir -Independnet, Y Antas Khan -Independent and Me Azizul Haque Khan of the INC

In Wangjing Tentha- Paonam Brojen of the BJP, Moirangthem Hemanta Singh of the INC and Sarangthem Manaobi - Independent

In Saitu - Ngamthang Haokip of the BJP and Lamtinthang Haokip of INC.
