The Jawaharlal Nehru Students’ Union (JNSU) on Thursday said it will stage a protest demonstration outside the HRD Ministry on Friday. The students demand the recommendations of the committee set up to restore normal functioning of JNU be made public. They also demand the proposal for hostel fee hike to be rolled back.
Opposing the hike in hostel fees, JNU students have been holding a month-long protest, disrupting the functioning of the varsity in Delhi. The situation took a violent turn on November 11 as thousands of students clashed with the police in the capital. In view of it, a three-member committee was set up to restore smooth functioning of the varsity.
The committee submitted its report to the ministry on Tuesday. The JNSU demand that the report be made public and the draft hostel manual, which has provisions for hostel fee hike, be completely rolled back, according to reports.
Blaming the administration for the academic loss suffered by the students in the process, the JNSU demanded increased semester time to make up for all the academic losses. The students also demanded the removal of vice-chancellor Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar.
