Unhappy with the functioning of the institute director, Dr Thongam Bhimo, Assistant Professor Senior Residents Associate Professors (APSRA) committee staged sit-in protest in front of JNIMS director office complex on Wednesday, at Porompat Imphal East.
As a part of the protest, the doctors took mass casual leave.
Speaking to the media, APSARA general secretary, Dr Bikram Aditya accused director Bhimo of being more interested in fresh recruitment of assistant professors than the welfare of the teachers of the hospital.
Dr Bikram said the teachers of JNIMS have been suffering immensely for past two years.
Further he said, “There are 25 vacant post of assistant professor. The post could fill up from 35 post graduate completed students of the institute. We have raised the issue time and again to the chief minister, chief secretary and even the principal secretary. But there has been no viable response.”
This is due to lack of responsibility on the part of the institute director, he accused.
“It is very shocking and surprising that the recruitment of four assistant professors of Anesthesia and Liver therapy was completed in one day without giving time between advertisement notice”, he added.
The committee is against fresh appointments of assistant professors till the implementation of long standing demands like time scale promotion for all including non-PG senior residents/lady medical officers/casualty medical officers, promotion of 50 percent of sanctioned posts of senior residents, provision of teachers’ quota for non-PG senior residents and absorption of tenure senior residents, he said.
Strike will continue until JNIMS director is removed from the post, he added.
