Jiribam police arrest three opium traffickers

An anti-drugs cell team in association with personnel of Jiribam district Police arrested three persons along with 8.605 kg of opium on November 18.

The police team were conducting frisking and checking operations on all types of vehicles at Leingangpokpi village near All Jiribam Motor Transport and Drivers Union branch office along NH-37 when a silvered coloured Nissan Micra car bearing Registration No. DL9CAA- 0105 which was coming from Imphal towards Jiribam Bazaar was stopped for checking.

Reports from SP, Jiribam district, M. Mubi Singh stated that upon checking and frisking of the vehicle, 10 packets of opium wrapped with brown cello-tape were found kept concealed inside the left and right-side cupboard of the car’s dickie.

The three arrested have been identified as Seitinkhup Khongsai, 25, son of Ngamjapao Khongsai of Gangpikon village, Kangpokpi district, Deepak Shivakoti, 34, son of (late) Ganga Prasad of Kanto Premnagar, Imphal West district, and Bhagirath Luitel , 46, son of (late)) Chandraprasad Luitel of Kanglatombi Hathikhuwa village of Imphal West district.

It has been also reported that, on further enquiries, the arrested individuals have revealed that the illicit drugs were manufactured in the house of one Seitinkhup Khongsai and the items were to be transported to Shillong, Meghalaya.
