The prize distribution ceremony for the first ‘Plastics Related Collection Competition’ of Jiribam district was held on Monday at JMC Multi Utility Auditorium Hall, Jiribam. It was jointly organised by Friendly Environmental Warriors (FEW) Jiribam, Jiribam district administration, and Jiribam Municipal Council (JMC).
The speakers on the occasion expounded he harmful effects of plastic waste on the environment while also lauding the initiatives taken up by FEW and assuring their support for future initiatives,
While K Sarat Kumar conveyed his appreciation for the efforts make Jiribam district a ‘Plastic Free Zone,’ K Puna Singh emphasised on recycling of plastic products. Jiribam municipality has been doing a commendable job, he continued while also adding that there node to be more efforts as initiatives have been less in interior parts of the district. K Puna Singh added a public appeal to make Jiribam a green district.
During the event, cash prizes were distributed to the winners of the “Clean and Plastic Free School Campus” competition in both individual and group categories. It was organised by ZEO/DPO on the theme of “Single Use Plastic Free India” under the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan.
Monthly remunerations for sanitary staffs of JMC were distributed during the event.
The event was attended by vice – chairman, Manipur Food Industries Corporation Ltd. Govt of Manipur and chief advisor, FEW, Jiribam, K Sarat Kumar Singh, president of JMC, S Shanti Devi FEW, K Puna Singh, chairperson of JMC, Mayanglambam Rajkumar Singh, DC of Jiribam, K AJit Kumar Sharma, deputy commandant of 7th IRB, Uchathol, MES, Zonal Education Officer (ZEO)-Jiribam, Thoudam Amurashi Chanu and convenor, JUC-Jiribam, W Dinesh Singh as chief guest, president and guests of honours respectively.
