India's COVID-19 death toll crosses 1 lakh-mark

India's COVID-19 death toll on Saturday crossed the one lakh-mark as 1069 deaths were recorded in the span of a day, the Union Health Ministry said.
According to the Health Ministry's latest data, the death toll in India is 1,00,842. The total number of COVID-19 cases in the country also crossed the 64 lakh-mark as 79,476 new COVID-19 cases were also reported in a span of 24 hours, the Health Ministry said.
India now has 64,73,545 confirmed COVID-19 cases,including 9,44,996 active cases and 54,27,707 recovered cases.
According to Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), a total of 7,78,50,403 samples have been tested for COVID-19 as of October 2. Of these, 11,32,675 samples were tested on Friday.
The total recoveries from COVID-19 has crossed 54 lakh, which has pushed the national recovery rate to 83.84 percent. India's COVID-19 active cases comprises 14.60 per cent of the total caseload, the data showed.
Moreover, 25 States and UTs have reported a dip in active cases in the last week, according to Union Health Ministry's data.
India has become the third country in the world after the United States and Brazil, to record 1 lakh deaths due to Coronavirus infection.
India's fatality rate is recorded to be the one of the lowest as compared to worst-hit countries, even with the number of deaths mounting.
