‘Indian Nationalism and North East India’ released

A book titled ‘Indian Nationalism and North East India’ written by Gonmei Lanbilung was released on Saturday during a function held at Maharaja Bodhachandra College, Palace Compound.

Gonmei Lanbilung is an associate professor of history department, Imphal College and has authored and co-authored four historical books.

Retired chief regional manager, New Indian Assurance Co. Ltd., Kamei Chunkeilung while reviewing the book said that the book will encourage the readers to re-measure and re-examine the already existing texts on Indian nationalism. It is not a voluminous book and has only 90 pages, he added.

The book also argued that it will not be right to called ethnicity movement as a nationalism movement, stated Chunkeilung.

Speaking at the release function, former head of department, history department, MU, professor N Joykumar opined that the book will be able to spark an academic debate on what is the relation between Indian nationalism and the Northeast India.

While pointing out the need to rewrite history, he said that one cannot depend entirely on empirical data but one must focus on the folk and even the prayers if necessary.

Retired principal of Manipur College, L Sadananda and principal, Maharaja Bodhachandra College, M Chandra were also present during the occasion.
