India records highest single-day spike of 15,968 Covid-19 positive cases

The total number of COVID-19 positive cases in the country reached 4,56,183 as of Wednesday morning.

India has reported the highest single-day spike of 15,968 positive cases of the over two lakhs sample tested for COVID-19, and 465 deaths in the last 24 hours, according to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) on Wednesday.

With the new 15, 968 positive cases countrywide, the total number of COVID-19 positive cases in the country has reached 4,56,183.

Maharashtra, which is the worst-hit state in India, has total 1,39,010 Covid-19 positive cases and 62,848 active cases, so far. The recovery tally is 62,848 while the number of deaths has risen to 6,531.

However, Mumbai recorded lowest number of single-day new cases in 40 days since Tuesday at 824, taking the active case tally to 29,982.

On Tuesday morning the total tally, with 14,933 people testing positive for coronavirus in a single day, the country’s COVID-19 tally was 4,40,215 while the death toll rose to 14,011 with 312 new fatalities, according to the Union Health Ministry.

Meanwhile, Manipur state in the Northeast on Tuesday reported total number of Covid-19 positive cases in the state at 921 with 23 new positive cases, according to the state health department spokesperson Dr Kh Sasheekumar Mangang. In the past few days, the state has been witnessing rapid Covid-19 spread in all the districts, among the returnees who are being kept at quarantine centres. Complaining against delayed test reports even after staying in quarantine centres for additional days, inmates and their parents at several quarantine centres have demanded the government's attention to address their grievances.
