Women vendors in Manipur on Monday ceased work and strongly protested against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill which the government plans to reintroduce in the winter session of Parliament that began Monday.

“No Citizenship (Amendment) Bill in Northeast,” the women vendors of Khwairamband Market shouted, making it clear to the government their opposition to such a legislation.

The women vendors ceased all normal business activities and staged a massive protest at Khwairamband Market following the listing of CAB in the business list of winter session of   Parliament. They held placards that read ‘Withdraw CAB Unconditionally’, ‘No CAB In Northeast’, among others.

Manipur students under the aegis of the North East Students Organisation and the All Manipur Students Organisation on Monday marched towards the governor bungalow in protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill in Imphal.

Police intervened and stopped the students from marching further.

The students also staged a sit-in protest at Keishampat, Imphal, earlier in the day.

The CAB issue is being listed among others for discussion in the Winter session of Parliament that began today.
