Grenade Attack on BSF: Three arrested, explosives seized in Wangjing

The Thoubal district police have been successful in tracing down and arresting the three persons involved in the attack on the BSF CI post at Wangjing under Thoubal police station on Sunday. Huge explosive devices were also seized from their possession, according to the police.

The three persons have been identified as Aribam Md Iliyas Khan, 22, son of Md Heshamuddin Khan alias Tomba, Phundreimayum Md Akram Hussain, 22, son of Md Muheiruddin, both from Sangaiyumpham Part-I, Puleipokpi, Thoubal district and Khumukcham Pradeep Luwang, 33, son of Kh Mangoljao of Kakching Khunou Thingnam Bokul Leikai, Kakching district. Among the three, Md Iliyas Khan is the organisation secretary of students organisation RSF (Reformist Students Front), Thoubal district branch, police informed.

Disclosing this at a press briefing held at the office of the superintendent of police, Thoubal district, SP  S Ibomcha said that on Sunday at around 7.25 pm an IED blast had occurred near 113 Battalion BSF ‘E’ coy, Wangjing Tekcham Leikai after which ”Immediately, a Thoubal police team comprising of additional SP (Ops), Sachidananda Soibam, SDPO Thoubal,  H Johny Sharma, DSP (Ops) Thoubal, A Khelen, OC-CDO Thoubal, N Sadananda, OC Thoubal police station,  N Jadumani,  and RI Thoubal, N Suresh led by the SP himself rushed to the spot and conducted cordon and search operation and house to house search in the area.

The police team were assisted by a team of 113 Battalion BSF comprising of Commander 113 Battalion BSF,  Hidam Subol,  AC (CI Wangjing), Naveen Jakhar and E-coy, CI Wangjing, Inspector Hussain.

The SP said that in the combined operation, a blood soaked jacket had been found, and added that the police team followed the blood trail up to the western bank of Heirok-Wangjing River. While searching an area at Wangjing Wangkhei located at the other side of the river, the police team surrounded two suspected houses, the SP said. ”One suspected attacker was found hiding in an incomplete pucca house located at Wangjing Wangkhei Maibam Leirak. He was overpowered by the police team when he tried to escape,” the SP added.

The SP further disclosed that the person identified himself as one Aribam Md Iliyas and he disclosed on spot inquiry that he along with one Phundreimayum Md Akram Hussain planted and blasted the IED near the BSF camp on the instruction of one Khumukcham Pradeep Luwang.

The SP stated that immediately the police team rushed to Sangaiyumpham area based on the information given by Iliyas and conducted search operation in which Md Akram Hussain was arrested. The police team led by Sachidananda Soibam launched an operation and the said accused Kh Pradeep Luwang was arrested from near Khangabok Higher Secondary School on NH-102 on Sunday night. The accused Pradeep confessed that he went to Moreh along with Md Iliyas Khan in January 2020 and met the banned UG group PREPAK’s self styled commander Tamocha and one of his cadre in Myanmar.

The PREPAK leader taught the accused persons about the assembly of IED and planned the IED attacks on security forces. Tamocha delivered the materials necessary for the IED, Kh Pradeep Luwang and Md Iliyas Khan assembled an IED which was planted and blasted on Sunday near the BSF CI post at Wangjing by Md Iliyas Khan and Md Akram Hussain under the instruction of Kh Pradeep Luwang who was instructed again by self-styled commander Tamocha of PREPAK.

SP Ibomcha added that on the disclosure of Kh Pradeep Luwang, seven detonators, explosive  chemicals weighing 2.530 kg, one electronic circuit, one multimeter with wires, one remote control device, one dry battery (nine volt), three mobile handsets, and one Dio scooter were recovered from the house of Aribam Md Iliyas Khan.
