Jiribam school reopens after long hiatus: The Babukhal Primary School in Jiribam district which was established in 1965 was revived on Monday with active intervention from the authorities after the school had closed down few years back due to government authorities’ lack of interest in the upkeep of the school. What brought about the change was the recent concern shown by the Zonal Education Office (ZEO), Jiribam under the supervision of Thoudam Amurashi Chanu, MES, and officials including vice chairman of the Manipur Food Industries Corporation Ltd, Government of Manipur, K Saratkumar Singh who went to the school at Babukhal and made sure that it was made functional again. The school students were given uniform, shoes and other items at Monday’s function that marked the reopening of the school. M Imochouba, AI, ZEO, Jiribam said during today’s function that the school would start functioning from January 26 with the help of the present teachers and with some more who are to be inducted soon. The infrastructure of the school would also be overhauled before the session began, he said.

Rehabilitation camp concludes: The 90-day free rehabilitation programme for drugs and alcohol users organised by Drug Rehabilitation Centre’s Union, Manipur, private (DRUM-P) concluded on Monday at the community hall of WAL United Club, WangkheiAngomLeikai. Altogether, 24 drug users and alcoholics were provided free treatment for 90 days starting from October 14, 2019. The free treatment programme was organised by DRUM-P to provide free treatment to drug users and alcoholics from below poverty line and weaker sections of the society who were not in a position to afford treatment. Speaking at the closing function, Th Sarat, president DRUM-P observed that the free treatment programme concluded successfully and the next phase of free treatment will be organised very shortly in the coming months.

NSCN (I-M) condoles death of Khughovi Swu: The NSCN (I-M) has condoled the untimely demise of Khughovi Swu, ‘Tatar’ from Chisholi village under Sumi Region on January 11 and ‘Lieutenant’ Pashel Motha of Zasibituo Battalion, Naga Army from Tokpaching village under Khurmi Region on the same day. Pashel enrolled in the Naga national service on October 21, 2005. The office of the adjutant general, Naga Army bestowed upon him posthumously the rank of captain on January 12, 2020 in recognition of his service to the Naga nation, stated a release. Both served the “Naga nation” with unwavering national spirit until their demise, it added. The NSCN (I-M)also conveyed condolences to the bereaved family members and prayed to the Almighty God to grant their souls eternal peace and rest. Cultural activist Chandramohan no more: Cultural activist and member of CPI, Thounaojam Chandramohan passed away on the morning of January 12 following a BP stroke at his house located at Takyel Khongbal Moirangthong Leirak Imphal. Thounaojam Chandramohan used to play Khongjom Parba related to current political issues of the state. He is survived by his wife, Sakhi Devi, two sons and three daughters, stated a press release.

15-day Nata Sankirtan workshop concludes at Cachar: A 15-day Nata Sankirtan workshop organised by the Shree Shree Bhagyachandra Manipuri Dance Academy, Lakhipur, Cachar and sponsored by the Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy (JNMDA), Imphal concluded on Monday at the Konjeng Leikai Hari Mandop at Lakhipur in Assam’s Cachar district. The workshop was held from December 29 to January 12. The president of the Bhagyachandra Dance Academy, Lukram Mahendra Singh, Retd senior guru of the JNMDA, Pukhrambam Dhanajit, Retd ACS officer, Kangabam Shanti Singh, general secretary, Assam Manipuri Sahitya Parishad, Ngangom Basanta Kumar Singh, Nata Bhushan, Maimom Angouton Singh, pung guru, JNMDA, Meihoubam Satyaban, and Eshei guru, Laishram Birjit Singh attended the function. As part of the concluding function, a nata sankirtan was also performed by the students of the Bhagyachandra Dance Academy. Those who took part in the workshop included 21 Eshei boys and 12 pung students. The 33 students were imparted training by Meihoubam Satyaban, a nata sankirtan pung guru, Laishram Birjit Singh, a Eshei guru, and Sanasam Shantikumar Singh, a pung assistant. The teachers were all from the JNMDA.

Atal Tinkering Lab opens: A Atal Tinkering Lab was opened at the Eastern Blooming Flower school by the Zone (III) Thoubal DI, Sanahal as the chief guest of the inaugural function. The school is located at Ukhogsang in Thoubal district. The chief guest made believe that the students at the school would get practical knowledge in science which would help them in becoming better students. Engineer Rohen gave in-depth information about the lab to the students and also asked the teachers to give motivation to the students. The inaugural function was also attended by school principal, S Senyai.

Thoubal police nab liquor supplier: A team of Thoubal Police nabbed one illicit Distilled Indigenous Country (DIC) liquor supplier along with the liquor on Monday at 10.30 am. According to a police source, a team of Thoubal Police Station led by SI L Premkumar and assisted by SI Jemson and ASI W Suresh of Thoubal PS under the supervision of OC Thoubal PS N Jadumani have picked up the DIC supplier namely ChongthamPrem, 35, son of ChPiyo of Khongjom along with 300 litres of DIC liquor from Thoubal along NH-102 opposite KshetriSanglen. Further, the seized liquor along with the individual is being handed over to Excise Thoubal for further necessary action.
