German university honours Manipur social worker

International Peace University, Germany, has conferred an honorary doctorate in the field of social work to Moirangthem Sushilkumar Singh son of (Late) M Okendra Singh of Wangjing Bazar, Thoubal.

He was conferred the degree in honour of his service in rehabilitation of victims of human trafficking and mentally ill persons in the last 10 years, during a convocation and awards ceremony held on Saturday at Shenbaga hotel and convention centre, Puducherry.

Out of 51 convocation awardees from all over the country, Moirangthem Sushilkumar Singh was the only one from Manipur. The founder of Centre for Development Activities (CDAC), Wangjing, Sushilkumar Singh, from the last 22 years, had rescued, rehabilitated, re-integrated and repatriated several girl victims of human trafficking from Nepal, Myanmar along with children from the state rescued from Chennai.

Sushilkumar Singh along with his organisation had provided shelter, education to children in need of care and protection and instigated reintegration process along with rehabilitation programmes for many mentally ill persons.
