The youth was reported to be suffering from headache since the last one month, as stated by his father.

The youth is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital at Nagaram in Imphal. The patient, who is now in an unconscious state, was hospitalised on July 10 as his health condition became critical.

According to family members, the doctor told them that there is 70 per cent chance of recovery. They have also alerted the local club of Tentha Khunjao to make the locals aware that the virus of Japanese Encephalitis is present in their locality. The family of the patient is running a piggery and a dairy farm.

According to medical experts, Japanese Encephalitis is characterised by inflammation of the brain and high fever. There is no medical treatment for the disease, and as with other viruses, patients are treated for the symptoms they develop.

Change in climatic conditions, extended period of heat wave, erratic rainfall causing flash floods which leads to water stagnation contribute towards a suitable breeding environment for the Japanese Encephalitis vector.
