“Sadness is always followed by happiness”. This local saying came true to the people of Kangpokpi when a baby boy was delivered by a returnee couple at the Institutional Quarantine Centre at Emmanuel School, Haipi, Kangpokpi district, Manipur.

The baby boy was delivered on the Christian Pentecost Day at Emmanuel School on Sunday, hence the parents named the child Emmanuel Quarantino.

A returnee Anjali Hmangte gave birth to the baby soon after she bid farewell to her deceased father at Kangpokpi district headquarters. She was given a three minutes time to attend the funeral.

According to Kangpokpi district hospital superintendent (in-charge) Dr Paotinlal Haokip, the mother along with the baby’s father arrived in Kangpokpi district headquarters on May 27 from Goa via Jiribam in a special train and they were kept under surveillance in a single room at the Institutional Quarantine Centre at Emmanuel School, Haipi.

Dr Haokip said that the swap sample of the 27-year-old mother was collected for COVID-19 test on Saturday and sent to the VRDL, JNIMS, Imphal and her result is awaited.

The medical team led by Dr Thangboi and Dr Pilhing and under the supervision of CMO Kangpokpi Dr Nilakanta Singh and Dr Haokip of the district hospital attended to the child’s mother with full PPEs and aseptic precautions and helped with the delivery, Dr Haokip informed.

Dr Haokip said the baby boy weighing 3.2 Kg was delivered successfully without any complication at around 9.45 am. The baby boy is healthy and lively and his mother has no immediate maternal complications or PPH, he added.

According to Dr Haokip, there are few more pregnant women under surveillance at some Institutional Quarantine Centres in the district, including Damdei Christian College and BIET Centre. They are being regularly monitored and given due care by the medical team, he said.
