The Council of Higher Secondary Education Manipur (COHSEM) on Monday expelled two candidates from the Higher Secondary Examination, 2023 and also from their candidature.
COHSEM released an order as per a report submitted by the concerned examination officer in charge (O.C) that two students from Ananda Singh Hr Sec Academy, Imphal examination centre have been debarred from appearing the said examination for two consecutive years for possessing mobile phones during the examination.
Earlier, in February, eight students were arrested for alleged involvement in dismantling of school properties of ACME Higher Secondary School at Yairipok, Thoubal district. The arrest took place after a complaint was lodged by the Private School Development Committee, Thoubal, in connection with the destruction and violence act.
“As it is the first instance, I will not upload their names and details. However, the incident is indeed disgusting”, said Chief Minister N Biren Singh, who uploaded their picture on his Facebook page with mosaic faces after being arrested by police.
It is reported that the eight students, appearing the Class-XII COHSEM Examination 2023 at the centre (ACME School), resorted to violence for not allowing them to cheat.
According to sources, the students were appearing for the said examination from the Azad Higher Secondary School.
During the commotion, as many as 15 students and a female teacher reportedly fainted and were rushed to nearby healthcare centres for treatment. A total of 405 students were appearing for the examination at the centre. The video of the incident went viral on social media.
