An earthquake of 5.0 magnitude jolted Northeast states, including Assam and Meghalaya on Saturday at 6.17 pm.
The location of the epicentre of the earthquake is about 100 km northeast of Tura in Meghalaya, at latitude 26.3 N and longitude 90.7 E, and 10 km depth, according to the National Centre for Seismology.
According to USGS, the earthquake hit 16 km E of Abhayapuri, 21 km away from Bongaigoan city at 12:47:02 GMT.
Apart from Bongaigoan, tremors were felt in Guwahati and other places in the two states. So far, no casualties or damage have been reported.
According to reports, tremors were also felt in Bhutan.
