‘Crime against women should be focussed otherwise state will be flooded with hue and cry’

President of WASEDEV, RK Tharaksana stated that crime against women is increasing in the state in a consistent manner and its root cause is the failure in delivery of justice. The association will no longer remain silent if the state government does not deal with the crime against women sincerely.

Condemning the recent Mayang Imphal gang-rape incident, Women Association for Socio-Economic D evelopment (WASEDEV) has appealed the authority concerned to deliver free and fair justice at the earliest and punished the culprits as per law at strongest term.

In a release, president of WASEDEV, RK Tharaksana stated that crime against women is increasing in the state in a consistent manner and its root cause is the failure in delivery of justice. The association will no longer remain silent if the state government does not deal with the crime against women sincerely, he added.

Stating about recent incident of gang-rape of a minor girl at Mayang Imphal, Tharaksana said that many unforgettable crimes had happened in the past. “If the government of the then period had punished those culprits, such brutal incident of gang-rape to a minor might have not occurred again,” she asserted.

She further said that it is high time to focus on crime against women seriously otherwise the state will be flooded with hue and cry of helpless women. Apart from rape cases, many married women are being harassed and murdered by their own husbands, she added.

While saying that many rape victims are living with great distress and suffering, she appealed to the state government to deal crime against women without any sense of biasness. She further appealed to give capital punishment to the culprits who are involved in the Mayang Imphal gang-rape incident.
