COVID-19 in Manipur: Positive cases surge to 272 with highest single-day spike of 63 new patients

Of the total 272 COVID-19 positive cases reported so far, 214 are active cases while the number of recovery stands at 58 in the state.

Manipur on Monday reported 63 new COVID-19 cases, highest spike in a single day, taking the total number of cases in the state to 272 and active cases at 214, the state health department said.

According to state health department spokesperson Dr Khoirom Sasheekumar Mangang, of the new cases 34 are Bishnupur, 18 from Kakching, three from Kamjong, two each from Ukhrul, Senapati and Imphal West and one each from Kangpokpi and Noney. All the new cases reported on Monday are returnees from other states, he said in a release.

Earlier in the day, 37 new cases were reported, taking the total number of positive ones to 209.

Of the 37 new cases, 22 cases were confirmed at the Virus Research and Diagnostic Laboratories (VRDL) of RIMS while 15 were confirmed at the VRDL of JNIMS, Imphal on Sunday night, the health department said.

Imphal West district reported 13 cases, 11 males and two females; Churachandpur district 12 cases, 8 males and four females; Kamjong district five cases, all females. While Kakching, Bishnupur and Tengnoupal districts reported two cases each, Ukhrul reported one case, Dr Mangang said

Of them, 26 are Delhi returnees and nine of them had recently returned to the state from Mumbai. The other two are Uttar Pradesh returnees, the spokesperson said.

Of the total 209 COVID-19 positive cases reported so far, 157 cases are active, Dr Mangang stated.

They will be shifted to Covid Care Facility at RIMS and JNIMS, Imphal. All precautionary measures like containment and contact tracing are in place, Dr Mangang added.

Meanwhile, six male patients have been discharged from hospital after they tested negative for the virus. The total number of recovered cases is now 58.

On Sunday, 11 persons, five females and six males, were discharged from RIMS after they tested negative for the virus. With the new discharged cases, the total recovered cases rose to 52, the health department said, adding recovery rate in the state is 36.36 per cent.
