Court summons alleged cops in fake encounter case

Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal West on Tuesday summoned the cops involved in the alleged fake encounter killing of one Irengbam Ratankumar in 2010.  The accused cops are to be present on the next hearing on February 11, 2020.

The court took cognisance of the offence charge under section 120B, 302,201,34 IPC against the accused cops.

The charge sheet was submitted by CBI, ACB Imphal SIT against Inspector Nandeibam Jatishwar, head constable James Panmei, rifleman Thounaojam Sanatomba, rifleman Okram Hemchandra and Rifleman Thokchom Ibomcha, on May 16, 2019.

A case was registered by CBI/SIT New Delhi on February 27, 2018, after taking over all case records and documents from Singjamei police station in connection to the death of Irengbam Ratankumar, son of Babu of Phoubakchao Awang Leikai. 

He was allegedly killed in fake encounter by a team of Imphal West commando at Nandeibam to Mongsanggei inter-village road near Vale Academy under Singjamei police station in September 1, 2010.

The accused cops were not arrested during the investigation. CBI prayed for necessary orders to be issued to secure their appearance so that they may be tried for the offence as per the law.
