Novel coronavirus outbreak has claimed over 1,000 lives in China and 13 in US and the toll is rising with reports of new cases and death everyday, according to reports.

The Chinese National Health Commission, in a report on Tuesday, stated 1,016 deaths due to nCoV and 42,638 confirmed cases, with 2,478 new cases of the virus reported on Monday.

Scientists, however, say that coronavirus infection may have hit 500,000 people in Hubei province, according to a report in Business Insider.

In view of the alarming rise in the coronavirus confirmed cases and deaths, a WHO expert team led by Dr Bruce Aylward arrived in China late Monday to help control the situation, according to reports.

The WHO expert group together with Chinese experts will work jointly for in-depth evaluations of the novel coronavirus outbreak, according to the National Health Commission.

“We welcome international experts including those from the United States to take part in the joint expert team,” NHC official Mi Feng told reporters at a press conference.

The spread of novel coronavirus, which was first detected at Wuhan in Hubei province, China, in November 2019, has spread to as many as 25 countries, including India. The WHO in January 2020 declared the coronavirus outbreak a public health emergency.
