Normal life in Imphal valley was thrown out of gear Thursday following the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity’s (COCOMI) call to the public to cease work and come out on the streets with the demand to protect the territorial and administrative integrity of Manipur.

People across various localities in the state capital today took to the streets, voicing the demand that the impending final settlement of the Naga peace talks should not infringe on Manipur’s territory.

As the COCOMI announced 20-hour cease work strike from 4 am today, locals came out on the streets and blocked roads at Wangkhei, Khagempali, RIMS. Sit in protests were also demonstrated at Wangkhei, North AOC, Tribal Market, Old Lambulane among others.

Streets bore a deserted look. Only a few vehicles were seen plying on the roads. Shops, major business establishments and educational institutions remain closed.

Meanwhile, security has been beefed up in Imphal valley in view of the Naga peace talks which was speculated to be sealed today.
