Contractors who provided tent facilities for Sangai festivals in 2017-18, and others who provided stage and ambiance, sound and lights for the festival in 2018 have demanded for their due payments before Sangai festival 2019.

They have reportedly not received a single amount from the last two festivals.

Speaking to the media at Manipur Press Club, proprietor, Chirom Joynanda, M/S Joy Enterprise said that the amount of 28,3242 in 2017 and 18 lakh approx in 2018 Sangai Festival under Manipur Industrial Development Corporation Limited (MANIDCO) at Hapta Kangjeibung, Khuman Lampak and Lamboikhongnangkhong have not been paid yet by the departments concerned.

He has earlier appealed works minister Biswajit to look into the matter. The minister has already sent instructions to pay the amount but it is still pending till date, he said. Now the state government has begun making preparations for Sangai Festival 2019 and asked the contractors for providing the tent facilities, he further said. He stated that he is not going to accept any government proposals until the due amount has been paid.

Leishangthem Ishor, who worked on stage and ambiance, sound, light for the festival in 2019 said that total amount of 9, 50,000 has not been paid. They went to Tourism department for the money but they were told that the money has been already released.

“We are confused whom to approach,” he stated. They had worked under department of Art and Culture but when approached, the department officials are also clueless, he said.

If the money is not paid before the upcoming Sangai Festival, than the team will not cooperate, he added.
