The All Manipur Christian Organisation (AMCO) on Friday observed ‘a day of prayer’ with all the Christians in Manipur at MBC Centre church Imphal in an effort to usher in peace amid the prevailing tense situation in the state..
The prayer meeting held at MBC Centre church Imphal began at 7 am and is attended by priests, pastors, catechists, evangelists, youths and women and various Christian organisations in and around Imphal, according to a release.
AMCO held an emergency meeting on November 6 and decided to appeal for nonviolence and peace, the release stated.
The organisation is deeply concerned about the prevailing situation in Manipur which is plagued with deep seated issues such as peace talks between Nagas and the government of India, ancestor land issue of Kuki among others, causing unrest and uncertainty in the State for the last few weeks, it added.
Further it said, the apex Christian body begs both the central and state government to come out with assurance for peaceful coexistence. The organisation decries the use of bombs, bandhs, mob justice, strikes and agitations to assert their respective aspirations and not through peaceful talks, it continued. All the Christian Churches are invited to observe prayer in their respective churches and institutions at their convenient time, the release added.
