Manipur's COVID-19 cases rise to 29 as three more returnees test positive

The number of COVID-19 active cases in Manipur rose to 25 while two returnees were discharged on Saturday

Manipur on Saturday reported three more COVID-19 confirmed cases as two more returnees from Delhi and one more from Chennai tested positive for the disease, taking the total number of confirmed cases in Manipur to 29 and active cases, 25 while four patients have been discharged, the state health department said.

According to a statement issued by the state health department, one of the three new cases was a 26-year-old man from Imphal West district, who had returned from Chennai.The patient has been admitted to RIMS COVID Care Unit. The other two cases, aged 26 and 19, hail from Thoubal district of Manipur. They had returned to the state from Delhi. They came in different buses, official sources said.

The new active case from Imphal West was detected at the VRDL, RIMS on Friday night. He left Chennai by train on May 10 and reached Jiribam on May 13, the health department stated, adding that he had stuffy nose and mild cough.

"He had stuffy nose and mild cough. His sample was collected on May 19. He is now admitted in the COVID care facility, RIMS," the health department stated.

It further stated that all necessary control measures like containment and contact tracing have been taken up.  A total of 112 samples tested on Friday night at VRDL, RIMS were found to be COVID-19 negative, it added.

Meanwhile, two COVID-19 patients who were lodged at RIMS Isolation Ward were discharged on Friday. The two were the mother and son duo from Tengnoupal district who had returned from Mumbai on May 13 along with 36 others. The two were lodged at the RIMS isolation ward. Manipur health department said that the mother and son tested negative for the virus today.

As the total number of COVID-19 patient recovered increased to four, the recovery rate of the state stands at 13.79 per cent, the department said.

Also, 17 inmates including two minors were released from an institutional quarantine centre at Circuit house at Bijang in Churachandpur on Saturday, a statement by the district surveillance officer Dr Ngahneikim stated. They were tested negative for COVID-19 negative after 14 days quarantine. They would be home quarantined for 14 days, it stated.

On Saturday, a total of 185 samples were collected and sent to Imphal for testing, it added.
