Joint Tribes’ Council of Zeme Naga Council, Rongmei Naga Council, Liangmai Naga Council and Inpui Naga Union on Saturday resolved to extend support the probe into the murder of former Zeliangrong Baudi president Athuan Abonmai.
The resolution was taken in an emergency public meeting at Shekinuh Inn Tamenglong district headquarters on Saturday. It was held in connection with the murder of Athuan Abonmai and the prevailing situation in Tamenglong district.
The meeting resolved to endorse and support the future activities of the joint tribes’ council to subside the unprecedented situation in Tamenglong district.
Leaders from different civil organisations including religious leaders, women society leaders attended the meeting.
The emergency meeting condemned the killing and proposed a peaceful rally to demonstrate that people of Tamenglong love peace in the region.
Pointing out that the arrival of huge security forces in Tamenglong district has created panic among the general public, the meeting also demanded withdrawal of all security forces coming to Tamenglong in connection with the killing of Athuan Abonmai.
The public meeting also decided to hold fasting and pray for peace in the region. In this regard, the Town Churches Union is to be requested to organise the event at the earliest, as per the meeting.
