India reports 29,616 new COVID-19 cases, 290 more deaths

The total COVID-19 active cases currently accounts for 0.90 per cent of the country's total positive cases - 3,36,24,419, while the death toll mounted to 4,46,658 with 290 more deaths.

India has been witnessing the trend of less than 50,000 daily new COVID-19 cases for the last 90 days, as 29,616 more COVID-19 positive cases were reported, as per the latest update by the Union Health and Family Welfare Ministry on Saturday.

According to the ministry's report, India’s COVID-19 active caseload numbered 3,01,442 as on Saturday. The total COVID-19 active cases currently accounts for 0.90 per cent of the country's total positive cases - 3,36,24,419, while the death toll mounted to 4,46,658 with 290 more deaths reported in the last 24 hours.

Kerala continued to report the highest number of COVID-19 active cases. It has 4,46,658 total Covid-19 active cases today. It reported 2802 new positive cases and 127 more patients succumbed to the disease, taking the death toll to 24,318.

A total of 28,046 patients recovered in the last 24 hours. With it, the cumulative tally of recovered patients (since the beginning of the pandemic) reached 3,28,76,319. Consequently, India’s recovery rate stood at 97.78 per cent as of Friday. The recovery rate is currently at its highest peak since March 2020.

The testing capacity across the country continues to be expanded. The last 24 hours saw a total of 15,92,421 tests being conducted. India has so far conducted 56,16,61,383 cumulative tests.

While the testing capacity has been enhanced across the country, the weekly positivity rate at 1.99 per cent remains less than three per cent for the last 92 days now. The daily positivity rate reported to be 1.86 per cent. The daily positivity rate remained below three per cent for last 26 days and below five per cent for 109 consecutive days now.

Meanwhile, India’s COVID-19 vaccination coverage reached 84,89,29,160 beneficiaries as per provisional reports till 7 am on Saturday.
