'Rs 1450-crore Loktak eco-tourism project under consideration'

Without developing Manipur and the rest of the Northeast, the development of this country is meaningless, said Union Minister of State Ashwini Kumar Choubey, who is on a two-day visit to Imphal.

To implement an eco-tourism project at Loktak lake, the Central government is working to provide Rs 1,450 crore financial package through the Asian Development Bank, Union Minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution and Environment, Forest and Climate Change Ashwini Kumar Choubey announced on Tuesday.

Without developing Manipur and the rest of the Northeast, the development of this country is meaningless, the minister said during his two-day visit to Manipur.

Chaubey reached Imphal on Tuesday on a two-day visit to the state. After reaching Imphal, he went straight to the Loktak Lake which is a popular tourist destination, and then to the Keibul Lamjao National Park.

After paying a visit to the official residence of Governor La Ganeshan and Chief Minister N Biren Singh, he held a press briefing in Imphal.

The press briefing cum felicitation programmes were held at 7.30 pm after a long wait by media persons and everyone present. Information about last minute change of venue further caused reactions and some media persons had already left the venue by the time the press briefing was convened.

It was attended by eminent sportspersons, including Olympians and officials from the Forest department as well CAFPD department. As many as 15 sportspersons, including Olympians, coaches and medallists were felicitated by the minister.

Choubey also said that Manipuris are benefiting from PM Gareeb Kalyan Anna Yojna scheme and they are getting 5 kg food grains per person every month.

“Manipur has a food grain storage capacity of 62,812 MT. We are making efforts to increase this capacity for the benefit of the state,” he said.

He also mentioned that Covid vaccination in the country is the biggest vaccination drive in the whole world. He spoke extensively about the Pradhan Mantri Gadib Kalyan Yojana and how it is helpful for the poor people of the country.
