All schools and colleges in Sikkim remained closed in the wake of the report of COVID-19 positive infection in five students barely a week after reopening of schools in the state.
The state government on Sunday issued the order for closure of all educational institutions till October 31 to prevent further spread of the disease among the student population and their contacts.
After six months, the Sikkim government reopened schools to conduct physical classes from September 6, 2021, for students of class 9 and above.
Sikkim on Sunday reported 16 more COVID-19 positive cases, taking the number of confirmed cases in the state to 30,565, including 863 active cases and 377 COVID-19 deaths. As many as 29,325 people across the state reported recovered from the illness as of Monday.
